Hornet Quick Tips

Non-Grapple Operation:

  1. Attach the post pulling chain to assist with plumbing the post and to act as a depth gauge.
  2. Have the second person position the post in the desired location (make sure their hands are at least 30” from the top of the post).
  3. Move the vehicle with the arms raised and position the Hornet directly over the top of the post.
  4. Lower the Hornet onto the top of the post.  Make sure the post is inside the lower portion of the driving tool.
  5. Make sure the second person has cleared the area.
  6. Float the loader arms or apply sufficient down pressure.
  7. Plumb the post.
  8. Activate the Hornet by turning the auxiliary hydraulics to the forward position.
  9. Maintain down pressure on the top of the post to prevent dry firing.
  10. Drive the post to the desired depth and deactivate the auxiliary hydraulics.  Raise the Hornet until the post is cleared and move to the next post.

Grapple Operation:

  1. Position the Hornet approximately 2’ off the ground and tilt forward so the grapple jaws are visible.
  2. Position the grapple jaws around the posts approximately 1-2” from the top. 
  3. Activate the auxiliary hydraulics in the reverse direction until the jaws are firmly clamped around the post.
  4. Raise the loader arms keeping the Hornet vertical until the bottom of the post is above the ground.
  5. Position the post in the desired location and lower the Hornet until the post is inside the lower portion of the driving tool.
  6. Intermittently activate auxiliary hydraulics in the forward direction to release the grapple jaws from the post.
  7. Float the loader arms or apply sufficient down pressure.
  8. Plumb the post.
  9. Activate the Hornet by turning the auxiliary hydraulics to the forward position.
  10. Maintain down pressure on the top of the post to prevent dry firing.
  11. Drive the post to the desired depth and deactivate the auxiliary hydraulics.  Raise the Hornet until the post is cleared and move to the next post.
